In a world of botanic boom, propagating a biome of one’s own has become the hallmark of a verdant oasis.
Moving from a landed home into a public housing flat, the plant parents needed an urban garden within their home that would provide a habitable environment for their plant babies to thrive.
To the owners of this 5-room public housing flat, cultivating houseplants in the height of horticulture is but a manifestation of their nurturing nature.

As the public housing flat was not equipped with an existing balcony, we needed to designate a zone within the living area for an indoor urban garden.
The layout was therefore split into two zones, a living area and an indoor patio, segregated by breeze block walls.
In the conceptualisation of the indoor garden, we opted against creating a clear boundary between the zones and instead embraced the concept of fluidity to celebrate the dynamic nature of space.

Barriers appear to dissolve amid these walls, allowing for a continuous and immersive experience as one moves from one area to another.
These hollow patterned structures were erected with the intention to blur the lines between the zones, allowing for natural ventilation and light to permeate while maintaining connectivity between the living area and the patio.
The interplay of light, form, and materials creates a sense of unity and coherence, enhancing the overall spatial quality while evoking a feeling of boundless freedom. For these foliage fanatics, creating a verdant oasis within their home is a way to nurture a green space reflective of mindfulness and zen.

As you retreat from the communal zone, a tranquil haven awaits.
The master bedroom boasts another key design intervention that serves as a testament to our commitment to creating spaces that transcend functionality.
The doors into the private area open into a serene space for relaxation and rejuvenation.

A blind bathroom is hidden within these fluted timber walls.

Now you see it, now you don't.
The entrance to the bathroom is concealed alongside the wardrobe, camouflaging any vertical lines that would otherwise indicate a break between panels.
A seamless appearance is achieved by detailing the door with timber strips consistent with the finishing on the wardrobe.

A concealed bathroom entrance simplifies the overall shape of the space by ironing out excess kinks to eliminate peripheral visual distractions.
In withdrawing any form of aberration in the surface that could come with an archetypical door frame and door, we could create a tranquil and serene atmosphere by elevating its sensory experience.
