The transformation of this home has yielded a spacious and open trapezoidal area that seamlessly combines various functions for a harmonious living environment.
This space is designed to serve as the client's ideal retirement home, with a primary emphasis on the central living and dining area.
The space was adopted with two existing outdoor balconies, which were converted into versatile indoor spaces that now serve as both living and dining areas.

Within this unique trapezoidal space, the design brief sought for the inclusion of certain programs such as the dining, living, store, walkway into the kitchen and private areas, and a reading corner.
Centering the design around this focal point, the living area was conceived as the pivotal component within this space, anchoring and harmonizing the various programs and elements.
In line with this vision, the sofa, which serves as the primary anchor of the space, has been positioned closer to the windows, which were formerly designated balcony spaces.

An invisible circular alignment for the new store wall and monoliths is visible through the plan.
The reason for this was to create a soft transition from circulatory spaces and the living and dining, all while preserving a sense of openness and fluidity in the design.
Each element was carefully integrated to maximize functionality within the distinctive spatial constraints.

As you step into this space, a pair of commanding monoliths emerge, challenging the prevailing sense of openness.
These twin structures boldly redefine the concept of openness, delineating the boundary between the corridor and the expansive living domain.
From the vantage point at the door, the void nestled within the first monolith frames the dining pendant, creating a focal point in the dining area. As you traverse inwards, the frame seamlessly transitions to encapsulate the living space beyond. A plant is potted within to fill the void, adding a touch of greenery and life to the composition while filling the space with organic charm.

This home's unique allure is characterized by the mesmerizing interplay of sunlight that bathes its interior.
At golden hour, the monoliths capture and cast shadows in the home in a dynamic and visually captivating spectacle as they lift and accentuate these shadows vertically from the ground.
The second monolith features door panels that open to both the dining and living areas. Within this monolith, a pantry is concealed, seamlessly catering to the needs of both the dining and living spaces.

The flow of curves within the space defines distinct functions. As you reenter the space, you may—or may not—notice a discreetly concealed storage door.
The intent of this design intervention was to conceal functional components within a single continuous curve.
The larger curve that seamlessly integrates the store door gradually tapers into a smaller, subtle kink, offering just enough space to accommodate a petite decorative vase. From there, it widens back out into a larger, more expansive curve, ultimately forming the TV wall.

Two voids have been carved into this wall, offering a canvas for both aesthetic and functional opportunities that enrich the overall landscape of the space.
The console extends beyond the horizontal void to bring asymmetrical balance to this wall. The vertical void creates an open shelving display for personal curations and memorabilia.

In the corner, a table lamp by Aromas designed by AC Studio adds another layer of lighting within the living that creates a soft glow. Flanking the sofa is an angular side table by Forme that echoes the organic nature of the built-in features. Demarcating the living is a plush Tencel carpet by Aratamete that introduces a soft and tactile layer atop the porcelain floor tiles.

In the kitchen, two sets of cabinets sit opposite each other along this rectilinear stretch.
A striking sense of symmetry prevails as they sit in perfect alignment and uniformity, accentuating the clean and harmonious lines of the space.
To reduce visual weight, we opted to forgo top cabinets on one side. Instead, we decided to create an opportunity for display with open shelving.

In the master bedroom, a set of cabinets extends along the wall.
Right by the doorway, a set of open shelves is laced with LED light strips to serve as night lighting for way finding.

Beyond the open shelves, a sliding wardrobe is attached to the bay window through a connecting detail.
The frame of the wardrobe extends beyond conventional dimensions to wrap around the existing column, flowing seamlessly across the concrete bay window, integrating the wardrobe into the layout of the room.

The two bathrooms share a common design language, supporting aesthetic cohesion and a sense of unity.
A Silestone quartz top stretches across the vanity and WC area to create a seamless flow between two traditionally distinct components. The smooth and continuous surface creates a visual and tactile continuity.
A large mirror framed in the same finish as the vanity cabinets stretches across the space, reflecting light and the surrounding elements, to create the perception of a larger, more open bathroom environment.
